One Year Of Farmers' Protest: Delhi Police Tightens Security As Crowd Gathers At Ghazipur Border

Delhi Traffic Police had tweeted on Friday morning that there will be traffic congestion from Ghaziabad to Delhi due to barricades placed by the local police near the Ghazipur underpass.

New Delhi: Huge crowds gathered at Delhi's Ghazipur border protest site to mark one year of the farmers’ agitation against the three agricultural laws which were passed by the Central Government last year. In the wake of the occasion, the Delhi police beefed up security arrangements at key points in the national capital.

Delhi Police Appeals To Farmers

Delhi Police have appealed to farmers not to take the law into their own hands. Delhi Police PRO Chinmay Biswal said, "The appeal has been made to the farmers on November 26 and the police are monitoring the situation. Adequate security arrangements have been made so that no one tries to break the law and create a nuisance. We appeal to people to maintain law and order and cooperate with the police."

Delhi Traffic Police had tweeted on Friday morning that there will be traffic congestion from Ghaziabad to Delhi due to barricades placed by the local police near the Ghazipur underpass. At the same time, traffic police are advising people to take an alternate route, Vikas Marg or GT Road, to reach Delhi.

PM Modi Announced The Withdrawal Of Agricultural Laws

The farmers continue to protest at Delhi’s borders despite the Prime Minister’s announcement of withdrawing the three controversial laws that led to a year-long protest. Before the withdrawal, farmers had announced to unite to mark one year of the protest. As a result, a huge number of farmers from Haryana and Punjab are on their way to Delhi to join the celebrations of one year as well as repealing the farm laws.

The Farm laws Repeal Bill was approved to be presented at the parliament in the upcoming winter session. The three laws to be repealed are Farmers Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act; The Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement of Price Assurance and Farm Services Act; and The Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act.

According to the government, the bill will be introduced in Parliament on the first day of the winter session starting November 29.
