New Delhi: The Empire State Building in New York was lit up with the tricolour during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ongoing state visit to the United States. A video that surfaced online shows the 102-storey building decked up in tricolour lights. PM Modi is on a state visit to the US from June 21-24 on the invitation of President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden.
The tallest building in the US, One World Trade Centre in Lower Manhattan, was also light up with tricolour lights to welcome the Prime Minister.
“Testimony to the friendship between India and the US, the iconic Manhattan landmark @OneWTC sparkling in the lights of tricolour, welcoming @narendramodi on the historic state visit,” India’s Consulate General in New York tweeted on Friday.
Meanwhile, Foreign Secretary Vinay Kwatra said that during the discussions with the United States President Joe Biden on various issues concerning both the countries, Prime Minister Narendra Modi stressed upon the need for the international community to recognise that the people who sponsor terrorism, support terrorism, they continue to pose a serious challenge to the safety and security of our societies and have to be very sternly and firmly dealt with.
In the US-India joint statement, issued on Thursday (Local time), the two countries strongly condemned cross-border terrorism, and the use of terrorist proxies and called on Pakistan to take immediate action to ensure that no territory under its control is used for launching terrorist attacks.
Biden and PM Modi reiterated the call for concerted action against all UN-listed terrorist groups including Al-Qaida, ISIS/Daesh, Lashkar e-Tayyiba (LeT), Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM), and Hizb-ul-Mujhahideen.
"These ideologies keep taking new identities and forms, but their intentions are the same. Terrorism is an enemy of humanity and there can be no ifs or buts in dealing with it. We must overcome all such forces sponsoring and exporting terror," PM Modi said in his 60-minute address to the Joint Meeting of the US Congress.
PM Modi To Travel To Cairo On Two-Day Egypt Visit
PM Modi will travel to Cairo on a two-day State visit to Egypt starting June 24. This will be his first visit to the country since he assumed office. According to a report by news agency PTI, during his visit, PM Modi will pay tributes to Indian soldiers who valiantly fought and lost their lives during World War I. He will visit the Heliopolis Commonwealth War Grave Cemetery in Cairo, a solemn site that serves as a memorial to nearly 4,000 soldiers from the Indian Army who served and perished in Egypt and Palestine during the First World War.
