Days after Congress leader Rahul Gandhi called Prime Minister Narendra Modi "Panauti Modi" after India lost to Australia in the ICC Cricket World Cup final, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma hit back at him and said that it was former PM Indira Gandhi's birthday on the day of the World Cup Final, and Rahul Gandhi wanted to hide that on the days when there is a birthday of any member of the Gandhi family, no good things can happen in the country.
Sarma took a swipe at the Congress and urged BCCI that from now on, when the birthday of any member of the Gandhi family falls, don’t organise important matches on those days.
“I saw Rahul Gandhi’s ‘panauti’ statement. After that, I tried to think about and understand why he made this statement. Someone sent me a video. On the day on which the World Cup final was being played, Priyanka Gandhi was giving a speech in Telangana and said that when India won the World Cup in 1983, Indira Gandhi called everyone, and now today is Indira Gandhi’s birthday and India will win the World Cup. But India lost. To hide that on the Gandhi family's birthdays, no good things can happen in the country, Rahul Gandhi used the “panauti” word. I request the BCCI that from now on, when the birthday of any member of the Gandhi family falls, don’t organise important matches on those days; something will go wrong".
Ram Mandir Not Just Election Issue But Issue For Whole Country, Says Himanta
Speaking on the issue of the Ram Temple, Sarma said that it is not just an election issue but an issue for the whole country. "What is the biggest issue in the country other than Ram Temple? You demolished the Babri Masjid and then made the Ram Temple. On January 22, there will be Pratishtha of the Ram temple... It's not just an election issue; it's an issue for the whole country," the Assam CM said.
