On 77th Independence Day, BRO Begins Work On World's Highest Motorable Road At 19,400 Feet

The Likaru-Mig La-Fukche road would cross at an elevation of 19,400 feet.

The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) has commenced constructing the world's highest motorable road in order to improve connectivity in border areas along the Line of Actual Control (LAC). The Likaru-Mig La-Fukche road would cross at an elevation of 19,400 feet, surpassing the existing world's highest motorable road, the Chisumle-Demchok route, which spans the Umling-la pass at 19,300 feet.

Taking to X (formerly known as Twitter), BRO stated: "On the occasion of 77th Independence Day BRO starts construction on yet another strategic road, Road Likaru-Mig La-Fukche. This road will pass through an altitude of 19400 feet and will be the world's highest motorable road surpassing the Umling La Pass."

The 52-kilometer-long Chisumle-Demchok road, at its highest point, Umling-la summit, exceeds the height of Nepal's Everest base camp.

The new Likaru-Mig La-Fukche road will climb considerably higher.

This would also provide an alternate land connectivity route to the Fukche advanced landing pad, which is only 2.5 km away from the LAC.
