Odisha Train Tragedy: Toll Rises To 291 After Bihar Passenger Dies Due To Cardiac Arrest

The overall death toll in the Balasore train accident rises to 291.

Officials stated that a passenger from Bihar died from his injuries at SCB Medical College Hospital on Saturday, bringing the death toll in the Balasore railway tragedy to 291. Sahil Mansur (32) of Roshanpur in Bihar's Bhagalpur district was identified as the passenger. According to hospital authorities, he was receiving treatment in the ICU of trauma care and was also suffering from a kidney-related condition. He was also on dialysis, they claimed, news agency PTI reported.

Dr Sudhansu Sekhar Mishra, Superintendent of SCB Medical College Hospital, stated that the patient died as a result of cardiac arrest. He suffered various internal and exterior traumas, as well as renal problems.

Mishra stated that of the 205 patients admitted to the SCB medical college hospital, 46 are still being treated, including 13 in the intensive care unit. "Of the 13 patients in ICU, two to three people remain critical," he added, adding that the remaining patients' conditions were stable.

Prakash Ram, 22, a migrant labour from Pathra village in Bihar's Gopalganj district, died on Friday at the SCB Medical College Hospital.

Earlier that day, a traveller from Bihar called Bijay Paswan died from his injuries at SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack.

In the quadruple train collision on June 2, 287 individuals died on the spot, while 1,208 were wounded.

The pile-up on June 2 involved three trains: the Shalimar-Chennai Central Coromandel Express, the Bengaluru-Howrah Superfast Express, and a cargo train. It was characterised as one of India's deadliest railway accidents.

The Coromandel Express collided with a halted freight train, causing several of its coaches to topple, some of which landed on another train, the Bengaluru-Howrah Superfast Express, which was also travelling by at the time.

Meanwhile, at AIIMS Bhubaneswar, 81 bodies remain unidentified. Although more than 70 people have already donated blood samples for DNA testing, the reports are still being verified, according to an official.

The AIIMS Bhubaneswar administration issued a letter to the Delhi-based Central Forensic Laboratory on Saturday, requesting that the DNA sampling test report for at least 15 people be sent since their family members had been waiting outside the hospital for the previous 15 days.
