Odisha Minister Death: Police Custody Of Accused Cop Extended By Four Days

According to the report, a special medical board has also been constituted to study the mental health of the accused.

New Delhi: Police custody of former ASI Gopal Krishna Das, who opened fire at Odisha minister Naba Kishore Das leading to his death, has been extended by four days by Jharsuguda court, news agency ANI reported.

According to the report, a special medical board has also been constituted to study the mental health of the accused.

Earlier this week, Odisha Police in its FIR said the accused ASI had ‘clear intention’ of killing the minister.

"All of a sudden, ASI Gopal Das of Gandhi Chowk Police Outpost, who was deployed for traffic clearance duty for the programme, came close to the minister and opened fire from his service pistol from a very close range aiming at the minister with a clear intention to kill him," Brajrajnagar Police Station inspector-in-charge (IIC) Pradumnya Kumar Swain, said.

"At about 12.15 pm the car of minister Naba Kishore Das stopped near the building and he got down from the vehicle after opening the front side passenger door of the vehicle. All of a sudden, ASI Das who was deployed for traffic clearance duty for the programme, came close to the minister and opened fire from his service pistol from a very close range aiming at the minister." Swain said, adding the bullet hit the chest of the minister and he fell down.

“There was profuse bleeding from the bullet wound on the body of the minister,” the IIC said, adding that he along with constable KC Pradhan caught hold of the accused ASI.

Meanwhile, a crime branch team seized one empty bullet case from the site where the Odisha minister was shot.

It also seized one 9mm pistol, 3 rounds of live ammunition and a mobile handset of the accused ASI Gopal Krushna Das. The fire arms, ammunitions will be sent for Ballistic examination and opinion, as per report.

A crime branch team headed by DSP Ramesh Chandra Dora is leading the investigation in the case.
