New Delhi: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a cold wave alert for North-Western India. According to IMD, cold-wave to severe cold wave conditions will prevail in some parts of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh. The temperature recorded in Delhi was 4 degrees Celsius on Tuesday a bit above Monday morning.
As per the forecast by IMD, the temperature will remain low in these regions for the next 24 hours and is likely to rise after that. Cold wave conditions will prevail in the isolated pockets of Uttarakhand, East UP, Vidarbha, Bihar, and Jharkhand for the next 48 hours. A similar situation will persist in Chhattisgarh and Odisha for the next 72 hours which is likely to abate thereafter.
The low temperature will cause dense fog and ground frost in isolated pockets of Punjab, Haryana, and Rajasthan over the next few days.
As per the sub-divisional forecast, the Met department has issued an orange alert in Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, and the regions of Madhya Pradesh. The orange alert is issued as a warning for cold waves.
Along with that, a yellow alert is issued for regions of Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Vidarbha, Bihar, Odisha, and Jharkhand.
The temperature is likely to rise from December 22 onwards. As per the IMD forecast, a 3-5 degrees Celsius rise is expected in Northwestern India after two days. And a rise by 2-4 degrees celsius is expected in Central and East India, and Maharashtra thereafter.
