Cold wave continues to take north India by its grip as a thick layer of fog blankets the region bringing down visibility and affecting flight and train operations. A dense fog could be seen in various parts of several states including Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Bihar, Delhi among others.
According to the India Meteorological Department, ‘very dense fog’ covered Uttar Pradesh, Chandigarh, Rajasthan, and Bihar on Thursday while ‘dense fog’ engulfed Madhya Pradesh and Tripura and ‘moderate’ fog over Jammu division.
Visibility of 25 metres was recorded in Bareilly, Lucknow, Bahraich in Uttar Pradesh; Chandigarh; Bikaner in Rajasthan; and Gaya and Purnea in Bihar.
Prayagraj and Varanasi in UP, Jaisalmer, Kota and Jaipur in Rajasthan, Sagar in MP, and Tripura’s Agartala logged a visibility of upto 50 metres amid the dense fog cover.
Sultanpur (UP), Gorakhpur (UP), Ajmer (Rajasthan), Patna (Bihar), Bhopal (MP), and Satna (MP), Jammu (J&K) recorded a visibility of 200 metres while in Delhi’s Safdarjung, it was 500 metres and 700 metres in Palam.
Several flight operations took a hit in Delhi due to low visibility.
As the temperature dropped down, people could be seen lighting fire and sitting beside it to keep themselves warm.
On Wednesday, 12 people were killed and 38 injured in a head-on collision between a bus and a truck in Assam's Golaghat district as thick layer of fog shrouded eastern as well as north and central parts of India reducing visibility.
