'No Rule Of Law In Tripura': Congress MP Claims 'BJP Workers' Attacked Oppn Leaders, Vandalised Vehicles

Congress MP claimed that BJP workers attacked and pelted stones at their group. He further alleged that 3-4 of our vehicles were vandalised while the police did nothing.

New Delhi: A day after the Left Front accused the BJP of the post-poll violence in Tripura, Congress MP from Assam, Abdul Khaliq on Friday claimed that BJP workers attacked a group of opposition leaders and vandalised their vehicles, news agency ANI reported.

Speaking about the assault, Congress MP stated: "They said they're BJP workers & attacked us & pelted stones. 3-4 of our vehicles were vandalized. The police did nothing. We realized there's no rule of law in Tripura."

Earlier today, an eight-member fact-finding delegation of leaders from Congress, CPI (M), and CPI arrived in Agartala to take stock of the post-poll violence in the state.

The opposition delegation will remain in Tripura till March 12 and will submit a report after interacting with persons impacted by the violence that followed the announcement of the state assembly election results earlier this month. After gaining 33 seats in the 60-member Tripura legislature, the BJP-IPFT combination roared back to power.

CPI Member Binoy Viswam has stated that the topic will be presented in the second part of Parliament's Budget session, which begins on March 13.

On Thursday, he tweeted, "Our united fact-finding mission to Tripura is the natural response to the atrocities unleashed by BJP. Burning of houses and killing of cows mark their victory parade. Democratic values are anathema to BJP. If secular, democratic, left forces stand united, BJP can be defeated."

Senior CPI (M) leader Pabita Kar said around 1,200 incidents of violence were reported across Tripura after the announcement of Assembly election results on March 2, reported PTI.
