The leaders of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) will hold a crucial meeting on July 19, a day before the monsoon session of Parliament, to discuss important issues and chalk out strategies for different Parliamentary businesses, reported ANI. The monsoon session of Parliament will begin on July 20 and will continue till August 11. Union Minister Pralhad Joshi had earlier urged all parties in a tweet to hold a productive session. He said that there will be a total of 17 sittings in this session lasting 23 days.
"Monsoon Session, 2023 of Parliament will commence from 20th July until 11th August. Urge all parties to contribute towards productive discussions on Legislative Business and other items during the Monsoon Session," he tweeted. The Union minister further said, "I appeal to all parties to contribute constructively to the legislative and other business of Parliament during the session."
Notably, the Monsoon Session of Parliament will start in the old building.
The central government has also called an all-party meeting on the same day (July 19). The session is likely to be a stormy affair as the Centre is likely to bring a bill to replace the ordinance that reversed the effect of the Supreme Court verdict that gave the Delhi government power over administrative services.
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has been seeking the support of various political parties to get the legislation blocked in the Upper House of Parliament. The matter is likely to be another instance to showcase Opposition unity ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha election.
In May, in a unanimous verdict, a five-judge Constitution bench headed by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud said the Lieutenant Governor (L-G) was bound by the decision of the Delhi government over services apart from public order, police and land.
Apart from this, the Parliament will be meeting after Prime Minister Modi made a strong pitch for a Uniform Civil Code and moves to step up consultations on the issue have begun.
