NCW Seeks FIR Into 'MMS Leak' At Chandigarh University. Accused Girl Made Her Own Video, Says Mohali Police

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Sunday ordered a probe into the matter following the protests that took place past midnight in the Chandigarh University campus.

New Delhi: The National Commission for Women (NCW), taking cognizance of alleged leak of ‘objectionable videos’ of some female students at Chandigarh University, has sought an FIR into reports of suicide attempts by some of the students, news agency PTI reported. According to PTI, the Commission said that it has come across several media reports and social media posts claiming that some of the students tried to kill themselves over the alleged leak of some videos.

In a statement, the National Commission for Women said its chairperson Rekha Sharma has written to Director General of Police, Punjab to immediately file an FIR against the culprits and deal with the matter strictly.

The NCW further said that the victims must be provided proper counselling and their safety must be ensured.

According to the report, the women rights body has also written to the Vice Chancellor of the university to take stringent action against the culprits and that the university must investigate the matter extensively and in a fair manner.

The Commission urged the chairperson of Punjab State Commission for Women to immediately inquire into the matter and ensure that the police is conducting a fair investigation without any influence.

However, Mohali SSP Vivek Soni said that after preliminary investigation, police have found only one video of the accused herself and there is no other video of anyone else.

“So far in our investigation, we have found out that there is only one video of the accused herself. She has not recorded any other video of anyone else. Electronic devices and mobile phones have been taken into custody and will be sent for forensic examination,” ANI quoted the SSP as saying.
