New Delhi: Taking a dig at Assam Chief Minister and senior BJP leader Himanta Biswa Sarma over his remarks on NCP chief Sharad Pawar’s statement on the ongoing Israel Hamas conflict, NCP leader Supriya Sule said she was surprise at how, despite belonging to Congress once, Sarma’s “attitude towards women had changed”. Sule made the statement in response to Sarma saying “Sharad Pawar will send Supriya (Sule) to Gaza to fight for the Hamas.”

“I am surprised because Himanta Biswa Sarma has the same DNA as me, he is originally from Congress. He and I share the same Congress DNA...You know how the BJP is disrespectful towards women. But I had hopes from Himanta Biswa Sarma. I am surprised how this change has happened towards women and the approach, probably going into BJP is a little rubbing off on him...BJP IT cell needs to understand and hear carefully what Sharad Pawar has said. Hear his entire statement,” Sule told the media on Thursday.

The war of words erupted after NCP veteran Sharad Pawar said India always “stood firmly with Palestine”.

Taking potshots at BJP leader Himanta Sarma over his remarks, Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut said the party that the former belongs to is “no less than Hamas.”

“The party he (Himanta Sarma) belongs to is no less than Hamas. He should first read and understand history. He is a part of BJP and should know former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee's stand on Palestine-Israel,” Raut said, as quoted by ANI.

Reacting to CM Sarma’s remark, NCP leader Mahesh Tapase, as quoted by PTI said, “I condemn his statement. Supriya Sule has been working for the women across Maharashtra and the country. She is fighting for their rights.”

Addressing a gathering of party workers in Mumbai, Sharad Pawar reportedly said India always “stood firmly with the cause of Palestine” and that it was “unfortunate that Prime Minister Narendra Modi stood with Israel”.
