Navjot Singh Sidhu To Meet Rahul Gandhi Amid Ongoing Tussle in Punjab Congress

Congress leader Navjot Singh Sidhu is going to meet Rahul Gandhi at a time when a three-member committee was formed just a few days ago to address the discord within the state party.

Navjot Singh Sidhu will meet Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday, amidst the ongoing squabble in Punjab Congress. Sidhu's meeting is going to take place at a time when a three-member committee was formed in the state just a few days ago to deal with the uproar within the party.

On behalf of this committee, the report was given to the Congress high command after a long discussion with all the prominent leaders, including the state's CM Amarinder.

What is interesting is that in five states including Punjab, assembly elections are to be held next year. The committee had made it clear that Captain Amarinder would remain the CM of the state. Given the situation, Navjot Sidhu's meeting is being considered as an important step towards bridging the gap.

The Congress panel formed to resolve factionalism in the Punjab unit submitted its report to the party's interim president Sonia Gandhi on June 10.

The panel has not recommended the removal of the chief minister and Captain Amarinder Singh is likely to lead the party in the next election. Instead, several reforms have been suggested in the party's state unit.

On the other hand, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Monday accused the Congress-led Punjab government of not allowing the party's national convener Arvind Kejriwal to hold a press conference in the state.

Punjab CM Amarinder Singh has denied the allegations. In fact, Kejriwal is scheduled to visit Chandigarh on Tuesday, and during this time, he intends to announce that if his party comes to power, the government will give "free electricity" to the people. AAP has planned to hold a press conference at Punjab Bhawan.

Singh denied AAP's allegations and asked why the state government would stop Kejriwal from holding a press conference even though he was given permission to organise the party's program a few days ago. He was referring to Kejriwal's Amritsar visit on June 21 to induct former Punjab Inspector-General of Police Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh into the party.
