New Delhi: The National Commission for Women took cognisance of a tweet by Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav for allegedly making objectionable remarks against former spokesperson of the Bharatiya Janata Party Nupur Sharma. The Commission has also written to the UP government to take immediate action against him under relevant provisions of the law.
NCW also sought a fair & time-bound investigation in the matter, as per ANI report.
The NCW has also filed a complaint against Yadav with the Uttar Pradesh police in connection with the matter. In a letter written by NCW chief, Rekha Sharma to UP DGP, the former suggested that Yadav should be booked for “criminal intimidation”, “insult to the modesty of woman” and “intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace”.
“The National Commission for Women has come across a Twitter post of Sh Akhilesh Yadav instigating a feeling of hatred and ill-will against Ms Nupur Sharma also, inciting communal disharmony between the two religious groups which is extremely condemnable,” the letter read further.
Now- suspended BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma’s controversial remark against the Prophet Mohammad during a TV debate had sparked protests across the country which turned violent. Case was registered against Sharma at several places.
The Supreme Court had recently reprimanded Nupur Sharma saying that her “loose tongue” has “set the country on fire” and that she should apologise.
