Taking to Twitter, PM Modi said “Deeply grateful for the overwhelming support shown by the global community for India's membership of the @UN Security Council.”
India will work with all member countries to promote global peace, security, resilience and equity, he further said.

It is the eighth time India has secured the non-permanent term for itself. India's two year term will begin on January 1, 2021.
UNSC comprises five permanent members and 10 non-permanent members.
Previously, India has been elected as a non-permanent member of the Council for the years 1950-1951, 1967-1968, 1972-1973, 1977-1978, 1984-1985, 1991-1992 and most recently in 2011-2012.
After India’s victory, TS Tirumurti, Permanent Representative of India to the United Nations said: “I am delighted that India has got into the United Nations Security Council with tremendous support. I would like to express my gratitude to the member states of the United Nations for this ringing endorsement.”
India won the Asia Pacific seat with the unanimous support of the countries in the 55-member group, with China and Pakistan, at least openly, conceding support in face of overwhelming backing for India from the others.
