New Delhi: India recorded one of the biggest surges in Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours with 12,881 new cases taking the total to 3,66,946 lakhs according to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare data. The number of active cases in the country is 1,60,384.

According to the ministry, there were 12,881 fresh cases in the last 24 hours. The country also witnessed a high number of fatalities in the last 24 hours with 334 deaths. So far, the total number of COVID-19 deaths is 12237. But on the other hand, India’s recovery rate is high and surpasses that of the number of active cases. The total number of people recovered is 194324. The government announced that the recovery rate has further improved to 52.95 percent and said that the recoveries/deaths ratio stands at 94.07:5.93 percent.

Among the worst affected states, Maharashtra is still leading with a total of 116752 cases out of which 51935 active cases. There has been a total of 5651 fatalities.

Tamil Nadu follows next with a total of 50193 cases and 21993 active cases and 576 fatalities. Delhi stands at the third place with a total of 47102. There are 27741 active cases and 1904 deaths in the capital city.

Gujarat remained the fourth worst affected state in the country with a total of 25093 and 6103 active cases. the state has recorded 1560 deaths so far.

Other states with more than 10,000 cases include Uttar Pradesh (14,598), Rajasthan (13,542), Madhya Pradesh (11,244) and West Bengal (12,300).

Worldwide the number of coronavirus cases has reached 8,331,135 with 4,48,958 deaths. The United States with 2,163,290 coronavirus cases is still the worst affected country in the world. Brazil (955,377) and Russia(552,549) follow and India is in the third place with  3,66,946 cases.
