Nandigram Result: 'Returning Officer Wrote His Life Would Be Under Threat If He Allows Recounting,' Mamata Banerjee Claims

Kolkata: Trinamool Congress Supremo Mamata Banerjee who led the ruling party into another term of governance albeit lost her own contesting seat, has once again alleged manipulations regarding her Nandigram defeat.

Speaking to the media on Monday, she said she received an SMS from someone wherein Returning Officer of Nandigram has written to someone that "if he allows recounting then his life would be under threat".

"For four hours server was down, Governor also congratulated me. Suddenly everything changed," Mamata Banerjee said following the threat claim.

The West Bengal CM went on to appeal to everyone to maintain peace and not indulge in any violence. "We know BJP and Central Forces have tortured us a lot but we have to maintain peace. At present, we have fight Covid-19," she added.

As soon as the clarity over which party will win West Bengal elections began to emerge, violent incidents began to be reported accusing ruling TMC of the same.

Addressing the allegations, Mamata Banerjee said that "They (BJP) are posting photographs of old riots, it's their habit. I don't like any violence. Why BJP is doing that? Even after winning with a thumping majority, we didn't do any kind of celebration".

"I am just a street fighter. I can boost up people so that we can fight against BJP. One can't do everything alone. I think all together we can fight the battle for 2024. Let's fight COVID first," she added talking about her spectacular win against the saffron party.

On Sunday, the tide turned in favour of Suvendu Adhikari in the evening as he trumped Trinamool Congress (TMC) supremo Mamata Banerjee by a margin of 1,953 votes.

While addressing the media, Mamata Banerjee conceded defeat and said that she has accepted the verdict of the people. 

"Don't worry for Nandigram, for the struggle you have to sacrifice something. I struggled for Nandigram because I fought a movement. It's ok. Let the Nandigram people give whatever verdict they want, I accept that,": West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee was quoted as saying.

However, Banerjee had alleged that manipulations were done in Nandigram counting. She said, "accept the verdict. But I will move the Court because I have information that after the declaration of results there were some manipulations done and I will reveal those."

In an exclusive conversation with ABP Ananda Editor, Banerjee told her party will approach the election commission and press for recounting of votes. 

Meanwhile, on the Covid front, the West Bengal CM has declared journalists as "Covid warriors" and revealed that the state government is requesting Centre to sanction Rs 30,000 crores for a universal vaccine for all throughout the country. "I came to know that they're sending maximum vaccines and oxygen to 2-3 states," she claimed.

Mamata Banerjee is likely to submit her resignation at 7 pm this evening and the date for her swearing-in may be revealed at that time.
