New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday launched an attack on Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, saying he has failed to deliver on his promises of development to the state and has been trying to copy the schemes of the NDA government.
While addressing a public rally in Guntur of Andhra Pradesh, Prime Minister Narendra Modi slammed the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leader and said that he failed to utilize the package provided by central government for development projects.
Modi laid the foundation stone for Krishnapatnam Bharat Petroleum Corp. Ltd (BPCL) coastal terminal project in Guntur.
"Our government gave to Andhra Pradesh much more than what was mentioned in special status. CM of Andhra Pradesh acknowledged this package but took a U-turn as they failed to use the funds in the appropriate way and were not able to develop the state," Modi said.
Modi said “he (Chandrababu Naidu) had promised a ‘sunrise’ for Andhra Pradesh, but got busy in making his own son rise.”
He had promised new projects for the poor people of the state, but just placed his sticker on Modi’s projects.
In his first visit to the state after TDP severed ties with the NDA, Modi lashed out at Naidu for aligning with the Congress, saying the former chief minister NT Ramarao (NTR) had launched the party to make Andhra Pradesh "congress-mukth" after he was a victim of its 'arrogance.'
“Chandrababu Naidu keeps reminding me that he is senior to me. There is no debate in this. I have never shown any disrespect to you. You’re indeed a senior in switching sides, and deceiving your own father-in-law (N T Rama Rao). You’re senior in losing elections one after another,” PM said.
Referring to Naidu’s Delhi trip PM said, “he is going to Delhi tomorrow for photo op with a huge gathering, to play the tunes of his party, but unlike BJP which is financing its events with the money of party workers, he is going with the money of Andhra’s people.”
Modi alleged Naidu was taking him on since the Centre had sought details of every paise given to Andhra Pradesh. Naidu had promised walking in the footsteps of NTR, Modi said and asked if the Chief Minister had lived by it.
The Chief Minister promised the redevelopment of Amaravati but is now engaged in his own development, the Prime Minister alleged.
Earlier, when Modi arrived at Gannavaram airport in Vijayawada, TDP workers staged protests.
