New Delhi: Two personnel of Assam Rifles were injured during a gunfight with suspected militants from National Socialist Council of Nagaland (NSCN K-YA) in Nagaland’s Mon district early Monday morning, reported news agency ANI. The injured security personnel were evacuated to Jorhat Air Force Hospital, reported the news agency and added that casualty of militants is also “suspected” while the search operation was still underway.
The incident comes just a week after militant groups along the India-Myanmar border fired on the Assam Rifle troops in Nagaland’s Tirap district in which a Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) had sustained minor injury.
The same day another firing incident between Assam Rifles troop and militant group was reported in Nagaland’s Dan Pangsha area along the India-Myanmar border.
Ahead of Independence Day, the National Socialist Council of Nagaland (NSCN) and United Liberation Front Of Asom (ULFA) had called for a “boycott” of the events and “total shutdown” in five states of the Northeast after which multilayer security arrangements were put in place across parade grounds and other sensitive areas in Assam.
"We have got inputs of militant movements in a few districts, mostly in Upper Assam along the inter-state border with Arunachal. The district SPs have been asked to deploy a multi-layered security system in and around the parade grounds in the state," a police official told news agency PTI.

On August 5, a joint statement was issued by ULFA- I and NSCN calling for a "boycott" of Independence Day and a "total shutdown" from Sunday midnight till 6 pm on Monday.
ULFA(I) has called for a boycott of the Independence Day celebrations after many years.
