Mumbai: Waterlogging In Several Areas As Heavy Rains Lash City, More Showers Likely Till Sept 12

New Delhi: Mumbai witnessed heavy rains along with thunder and lightning in the last 24 hours, bringing some respite from the sultry weather, news agency PTI reported. According to the weather forecast, light to moderate thundershowers is likely in the city over the next one day.

According to reports, with an east-west oriented trough stretching across Maharashtra up to Mumbai, this weather feature reached the east coast on Thursday.

As per Skymet Weather Services, Mumbai is expected to heavy rainfall from September 9 to September 12.

According to a PTI report, heavy rain was not reported anywhere in the city in the morning.

A civic official said that the local trains, metro services and buses of the Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) were running normally.

“There will be a high tide of 4.25 metres in the Arabian Sea here at 10.34 am,” he had said.

Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted generally cloudy sky with a possibility of light to moderate rain or thundershowers in the next 24 hours, the official said.

The forecast said that isolated areas in coastal districts such as Raigad, Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg will be receiving heavy to very heavy rains from Friday till Sunday.

The state will continue to receive light showers on Friday, though the spells might intensify through the weekend in districts such as Pune and Satara, as per IMD.

Notably, on Wednesday evening, Mumbai witnessed rains along with thunder and lightning. Though the traffic had slowed down in some areas, no major water-logging was reported from anywhere in the city.

In the 24-hour period till 8 am on Thursday, the island city received 30.96 mm rainfall, while the eastern and western suburbs recorded 32.64 mm and 19.29 mm downpour, the civic official said.
