Mumbai: Over 150 injured in toxic blue bottle jellyfish attacks at beaches
The long tentacles of jellyfish when enter the body of an individual, cause itching and pain for hours.
Mumbai: After many blue bottle jellyfish, which also goes by the name of Portuguese man-of-war, were spotted across beaches in Mumbai, many of them have caused panic and fear among the people.
According to an ANI report, many people have been injured in the past two days, causing itching sensation and pain for hours.
The long tentacles of jellyfish when enter the body of an individual, cause itching and pain for hours. The venomous sting can kill fish but not humans. When blue bottle jellyfish are found on shores they might appear lifeless but if one comes in contact with them, they sting them and the pain takes several hours to subside. The name "man o' war" comes from the man-of-war, an 18th-century armed sailing ship, and the cnidarian's resemblance to the Portuguese version at full sail. These blue bottle jellyfishes are seen in Mumbai, during the mid-monsoon season.
