Massive Fire At 60-Storey Building In Mumbai's Lalbaug. 1 Person Succumbs To Injuries

A huge fire has been witnessed at a 60-storey building in Mumbai's Lalbaug area.

New Delhi: A massive fire has been witnessed in the Lalbaug area of Mumbai. According to the initial inputs received by ABP News, a huge blaze has been witnessed on the 19th floor of a 60-storey building in Lalbaug.

Avighna park apartment at Curry Road is an under-construction building in which the fire broke out and several workers are feared trapped. Fire tenders have reached the spot after receiving the call by locals at 11:51 am. The fire is being said at level 4, hence around 20 fire tenders and several water tankers reached the spot and doused the fire.  The massive fire sent thick plumes of black smoke in the air that could be seen for miles.

"Level 4 fire broke out at Avighna park apartment, Curry Road around 12 noon today," said Mumbai Fire Brigade, according to IANS

 In a video of the incident, a man is spotted hanging from the balcony from where the blaze was reported. He is also seen falling to the ground. The person was then rushed to the nearest hospital who later succumbed to injuries. Fire Department said to ANI, "One person who was injured in Mumbai high rise building fire succumbs to his injuries. the person had jumped from the 19th floor of the building."

The deceased identified as Arun Tiwari (30) injured in the high-rise building fire was taken to the KEM hospital, where he was declared brought dead.

A majority of the residents managed to evacuate themselves, including several senior citizens and children.

BMC chief Iqbal Singh Chahal reached the spot and ordered a probe into the incident. He said the fire has been doused. Presently, the cooling operations are underway.
 
Traffic on Curry Road Bridge has been stopped due to the fire. The police have barricaded the area.

The cause of the blaze, tentatively believed to be due to a short-circuit, is being probed and the building reportedly has all fire-safety measures in place, said the residents, reported IANS.
