In an exclusive interview with ABP News, Cabinet Minister Omprakash Rajbhar has finally addressed the issue of Mukhtar Ansari within the Yogi government. Rajbhar expressed condolences to the Ansari family and confirmed ongoing investigations into the matter.
"Mukhtar Ansari's death is sad. The family had demanded an investigation. Investigation is being done. He was a messiah of the poor. I called him a revolutionary and I stand by my statement. Women from the general category are also coming and saying that Mukhtar Ansari saved their dignity. He has helped the poor,” Rajbhar told ABP News.
Notably, Rajbhar revealed that Mukhtar Ansari's elder son Abbas is a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) from his own party, marking this as Rajbhar's first public statement on the matter. (Input from ABPNews reporter Abhishek Upadhyay)

The family of former Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Krishnanand Rai, who was killed by Mukhtar Ansari, described the death of the gangster-politician as a 'blessing of Almighty'.
"What can I say?" This is a blessing from the Almighty. I used to pray to him for justice, and justice was served today. We never celebrated Holi after the murder, so I felt like today was Holi for us," Alka Rai told ANI.
Bandayu SP leader Aditya Yadav asserted the necessity of a thorough investigation into the Mukhtar Ansari case, highlighting pressure on the administration and urging the judiciary to take decisive action, while assuring no discord within the Azam Khan family. (ANI Update)
Rashtriya Shoshit Samaaj Party (RSSP) chief Swami Prasad Maurya, in an X post, said, "This does not seem to be a natural death but a case of murder. First, the panel of doctors discharged him from the hospital and his death after a few hours confirms the murder conspiracy alleged by the family members. Therefore, the entire sequence of events should be investigated. Even the post-mortem should be under the supervision of the High Court. This should be done under the custody of a High Court judge so that the face of those who are strangling justice can be exposed and the trend of such murders being perpetrated in police stations, jails, and police custody can be stopped."
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh's first reaction to the ganster-turned-politican's death came during a conversation with ABP News at its ABP Shikhar Sammelan 2024 programme. Singh reacted to the political leaders who had urged a "high-level probe" into the matter.
He said, "If someone wants to get an investigation done, get it done. He had a heart attack, after which he was given medical assistance, but he did not survive. If the administration will also look after someone who died in jail, then how will they run the government."

As Mukhtar Ansari's health deteriorated, his younger son, Omar Ansari, left for Banda. Along with this, Nikhat, the wife of Mukhtar's elder son, Abbas Ansari, has also left for Banda. Afzal Ansari left for Bandra from Ghazipur some time ago, and lawyer Ajay Srivastava, who represented Mukhtar Ansari in the High Court, has also left for Banda.
Lawyer Naseem Haider, who handled Mukhtar Ansari's case in Banda, said that the medical college has been converted into a cantonment. They, too, are not being allowed to meet. They have been told that whenever needed, they will be called by phone.
Advocate Ajay Srivastava, who is handling the case of Mukhtar and his family in Allahabad High Court in Prayagraj, has left for Banda from Prayagraj. He says that until now, the jail administration has given no information to Mukhtar Ansari's family.
Mukhtar's son, Omar Ansari, has also left for Banda. The family members have informed him that security has been increased around the house in Ghazipur as well.

Gangster-turned-politician Mukhtar Ansari was brought to Banda Medical College hospital after his health deteriorated on Thursday. "I received information that he has been brought here, so I have come here..." Naseem Haider, lawyer for Mukhtar Ansari, told ANI.
Earlier, Mukhtar Ansari was shifted from Uttar Pradesh's Rani Durgawati Medical College to jail after his discharge on Tuesday. Mukhtar Ansari was admitted to a hospital in Uttar Pradesh's Banda on Tuesday after he complained of abdominal pain in jail.
Ansari's lawyer, Naseem Haider, claimed that the former MLA in the Uttar Pradesh assembly is experiencing difficulty speaking. "Some reports are pending. He is stable, but he is having difficulty speaking," Naseem Haider said.
Ansari, 63, was a five-time MLA from Mau Sadar seat and was behind bars in Uttar Pradesh and Punjab since 2005. He had over 60 criminal cases pending against him.
He was sentenced in eight cases since September 2022 by different courts in Uttar Pradesh and was lodged in the Banda jail. His name was on the list of 66 gangsters issued by Uttar Pradesh Police last year.
Uttar Pradesh Director General of Police Prashant Kumar said prohibitory orders under section 144 of the CrPC were imposed across the state and teams of the Central Reserve Police Force along with the local police deployed in Banda, Mau, Ghazipur and Varanasi.
Ansari, who hailed from Mau, was believed to have a strong influence in the adjoining Ghazipur and Varanasi districts as well. The social media cell of the Uttar Pradesh Police has also been activated to keep a close watch on unlawful elements online, the DGP said.
According to a medical bulletin, Ansari was brought to the medical college around 8.25 pm on Thursday in an unconscious state after he had complained of vomiting. A team of nine doctors attended to him but he died of cardiac arrest, it stated.
