New Delhi: Indian cricket team captain MS Dhoni has resigned as brand ambassador of realty firm Amrapali, days after the unhappy residents of a housing project in Noida launched a social media campaign asking the cricketer to dis-associate himself from the builder.

Amrapali Chairman and Managing Director Anil Sharma while talking to ABP News said that the Indian cricket team captain is not a brand ambassador of the real estate group now.

"This decision was taken mutually by Dhoni and us," he added.

He also assured that they will soon fulfill the promise of delivering homes and will pay penalty over delay in possession.

Amrapali Chairman and Managing Director Anil Sharma said the company has always lived up to the expectation of its
customers and would fulfill all commitments in future.

The complaints from the residents of Amrapali's Saphhire project in Noida had gone viral on Twitter over the past few days after they tagged Indian cricket team captain M S Dhoni in their tweets asking the cricketer to dis-associate himself from the builder or force the company to ensure completion of pending work.

Dhoni, who is the company's brand ambassador, had said that he will take up the matter with the builder and
it must deliver on its promises.

"It's really sad that construction work of all the reputed developers in the Noida region has been affected in
last 3-4 years due to slow market, lack of funds and some other reasons which were beyond our control. We have also been affected and our projects are also delayed," Sharma said in a statement.

Dhoni was the brand ambassador of the company for the last 6-7 years.
