New Delhi: Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, will soon be seen wheeling a handcart (thela) around the streets of Bhopal for a cause, news agency PTI reported.

To kick off a campaign to raise awareness about the prevention of childhood malnutrition, Chief Minister Chouhan will drive a handcart around the streets, soliciting people and collecting toys for children enrolled in Anganwadi centres.

He made the remark while presiding over a meeting of authorities on the subject. "Soon, I would be moving around with a thela in Bhopal to collect toys for the children of Anganwadi kendra. The move would be a campaign to invite the people under Janbhagidari. This mission is to unite the people. I will fix a date for it soon," Chouhan  was quoted by PTI in its report.

The Chief Minister stated that it is not the role of Anganwadi personnel to pull children out of malnutrition.

"We all have to find out the causes of malnutrition among them. There should be awareness in society regarding it," he added.

Chouhan gave an example of an initiative in his hometown, saying he asked the farmers in his area to give food grains to Aaganwadi centres, and a large number of people responded by donating.

"The government's steps for making children recover from malnutrition and providing them paushtik aahar (nutrition) are different from the segment. We have to create awareness among the people regarding the root cause of malnutrition," he added.

The Chief Minister also questioned about the progress of adopting Anganwadi Kendra in the districts during the discussion with authorities. The Chief Minister has already urged people to adopt Anganwadi centres as part of their social responsibility.
