The mother of Kishanganj SHO, Ashwani Kumar who succumbed to injuries after being lunched by a mob, died due to shock after knowing about her son's death. Urmilla Devi was 70- years old and she died of shock in Purnea district of Bihar on Sunday. 


Kishanganj Town Police Station SHO Ashwini Kumar was killed by a mob of criminals. The incident occurred during a raid on a settlement of criminals near the Bihar-Bengal border.

The police had reached the spot at North Dinajpur's Panatapri to conduct a raid on criminals involved in bike theft. During this raid, they clashed with the criminals and the mob attacked SHO Ashwani Kumar.


He was beaten to death and reports also suggest that he was choked.


Soon after hearing the news, Devi, who was a heart patient, became unconscious and went into a deep state of shock that resulted in her death.


The last rites of both SHO and his mother were performed together on Sunday at their village.

"Ashwini Kumar had informed his Bengal counterpart prior to the raid. While carrying out the raid, over 100 men attacked them and brutally assaulted the SHO until his death," said a police officer of the Kishanganj police station.

Sources said that seven more police personnel who had accompanied Ashwani for the raid fled the spot after the attack.

Meanwhile, the family members of the slain cop have alleged conspiracy behind the incident.

Taking a strong note of the incident, Kishanganj SP Kumar Ashish has suspended all the seven police personnel including the circle inspector Manish Kumar for fleeing the spot.


A suspect named Feroz Alam has been arrested in the matter.
