The operation was jointly conducted by the Army, Police and CRPF. As per policy the terrorists were given an opportunity to surrender, who, however continued to fire and were eliminated in the consequent gunfight. Other than Zeenat ul Islam, terrorist Shakeel Ahmed Dar was also eliminated. Weapons and other warlike stores were recovered from them.
Security forces launched a cordon and search operation, (operations have now concluded) in Katpora area in south Kashmir's Kulgam district last evening after receiving specific information about the presence of militants there, a police official said.
As the forces were conducting the searches, the militants fired upon them. The forces retaliated, ensuing an encounter in which two militants were killed, he said. No collateral damage has been reported in the operation.
Zeenat, was considered as an Improvised explosive device (IED) expert.
Clashes erupt in Zeenat's funeral:
A major clash broke out between the security forces and the supporters of the killed Al-Badr terrorist Zeenat-ul-Islam during the latter’s cortege (Janaza) in Jammu and Kashmir. A group of people, apparently his supporters who wanted to take part in the procession, got into a fight with the security forces. In the fight that followed, seven people have been injured. The uproar over the death of Zeenat had caused internet services to be suspended last evening.
Viral for "Biriyani video"
Zeenat-ul-Islam, one of the dreaded and oldest terrorists, was associated with terror group Al-Badr and was a close aide of Burhan Wani. He had been a commander of Hizbul Mujahideen as well. Islam who resided in Shopian became known after a video of him and other terrorists eating ‘biriyani’ went viral.
Islam, a category A++ militant, had switched over to the Al-Badr from the Hizbul Mujahideen in November last year following agreement between the two outfits to strengthen the Al-Badr. Islam was active since 2015.
