New Delhi: Heavy rain and waterlogging have disrupted normal life in several parts of the country. Andra Pradesh, Jharkhand, and Maharashtra are among the worst-hit states with flood-like conditions reported from several areas in the last few days. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted more intense showers in many parts of the country, including Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, and Uttarakhand. Heavy rain alert has been issued for eight states till Friday, September 16.

After rain lashed Jharkhand capital Jamshedpur on Tuesday, medical services came to a halt at MGM Medical College and Hospital due to waterlogging. The Burn Care Unit was the worst hit. Patients were confined to their beds for a long time, while hospital staff tried to clear the accumulated rain water. Jamshedpur has been witnessing cyclonic rains for the last two days.

Normal live in Madhya Pradesh's Ratlam was also thrown out of gear as heavy monsoon rain caused waterlogging in several areas. In Dindori, the water level of the river rose above the danger mark after which a gate of the Bilgaon dam was opened and a warning was issued to people living in low-lying areas.

Meanwhile, highways and colonies were waterlogged after heavy rains battered Srikakulam district of Andhra Pradesh on Tuesday. Over the past few days, heavy downpour in Andhra Pradesh has triggered severe waterlogging in different parts of the Srikakulam district. Since Tuesday Srikakulam recorded 140 mm of rainfall while 150 meters of rain was observed in Ghara Mandal. Moderate intensity rain was also recorded in Tekkali and Palasa.

During the next 4-5 days, heavy rain is possible in some parts of Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh too.
