In a first, some Lok Sabha members attended the House proceedings on Monday while seated in the Rajya Sabha chamber as Parliament met for the Monsoon session amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Speaker Om Birla said in Lok Sabha that rules and procedures have been eased to allow Lok Sabha members sit in the upper house and Rajya Sabha members occupy seats in lower house due to social distancing norms.

Meanwhile, BJP member Ravi Kishan on Monday raised in Lok Sabha the issue of drug menace in Bollywood and asked the Government to take strict action against those involved in drug trafficking.




Raising the issue during Zero Hour, Kishan said drugs come to the country from China and Pakistan and there is a conspiracy by the neighbouring countries to destroy the youth.




Kishan, who is also a Bhojpuri actor, also praised the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) for doing a good job in unearthing the drug mafia which is trying to spread the menace among youth.
FM Sitharaman presents first supplementary demands; seeks additional Rs 2.35 lakh cr




Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Monday sought the Parliament nod for additional spending of Rs 2,35,852.87 crore, including Rs 40,000 crore towards enhanced expenditure under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Program.




"Approval of the Parliament is sought to authorise gross additional expenditure of Rs 2,35,852.87 crore," she said while speaking in the Lok Sabha.




"Of this, the proposals involving net cash outgo aggregate to Rs 1,66,983.91 crore and gross additional expenditure, matched by savings of the Ministries/Departments or by enhanced receipts/recoveries aggregates to Rs 68,868.33 crore," said the first batch of Supplementary Demands for Grants for 2020-21.

Maximum cases & deaths primarily reported from Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, UP, Delhi, West Bengal, Bihar, Telangana, Odisha, Assam, Kerala and Gujarat. All these reported more than 1 Lakh cases




With our endeavour to manage COVID-19, India has been able to limit its cases and deaths per million to 3,328 cases per million and 55 deaths per million population respectively, which is one of the lowest in the world as compared to similarly affected countries.

I'd like to draw the attention of this House & the govt to the plight of 12 students who had committed suicide - all from rural background - because of NEET exam. They had passed plus 2 through state board & NEET is conducted only in CBSE syllabus.




Within a month after plus 2 result, they have to enter into NEET exam and they are clueless. Without knowing any subject matter of CBSE syllabus, they are helpless and committing suicide. Future doctors of India have committed suicide.

Storm over scrapping of Question Hour




Apart from Congress, even the AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi said that it is shameful if the Question Hour is not taken up and sought for a division of the House on the motion.




Congress leader Manish Tewari in his speech cited Rule 32 to point out that even though the Speaker has the power to suspend Question Hour, the House has to unanimously take the decision as it is the only way to hold the government accountable.

Monsoon Session 2020 LIVE Updates: Amid the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, the much-awaited Monsoon Session of the Parliament began on Monday morning with Prime Minister Narendra Modi lauding all the MPs for choosing duty over Coronavirus. Just before the start of the Monsoon Session, PM Modi spoke to reporters outside Parliament and asserted that major decisions will be taken during Parliament proceedings with discussions on various subjects in both the houses. The Prime Minister expressed his firm belief that all lawmakers will do a value edition during the discussion. The Monsoon Session will continue till October 1.
NDA candidate Harivansh Narayan Singh was re-elected as Deputy Chairman of Rajya Sabha through a voice vote on Monday. “I declare that Harivansh ji has been chosen as the Deputy Chairman of the Rajya Sabha,” said Rajya Sabha Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu. Speaking on Harivansh’s election and his previous term, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, “Harivanshji’s unbiased role in the Parliament strengthens our democracy.”


As many as 17 members of Parliament have tested positive for coronavirus as they took the mandatory Covid test before attending the Parliament monsoon session that commenced on Monday, news agency ANI reported.


In Loksabha, BJP member Ravi Kishan raised the issue of drug menace in Bollywood and asked the Government to take strict action against those involved in drug trafficking. After a considerable delay due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the 18-day monsoon session in Lok Sabha kicked off on Monday at 9 am. Minutes later, it was adjourned for an hour over the demise of former president Pranab Mukherjee.

The first-of-its-kind Monsoon session saw members sporting masks while attending the proceedings.

As soon as the House assembled for the first time since the Coronavirus outbreak, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla paid glowing tributes to the departed leaders and security personnel who have laid down their lives while protecting the nation since March.

Birla also remembered "Corona warriors" like doctors, nurses, sanitation workers, police personnel and voluntary workers who died while fighting the pandemic. The speaker then adjourned the House for an hour, after about 20 minutes of business.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad, Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, DMK leader T R Baalu, National Conference leader Farooq Abdullah and NCP leader Supriya Sule were among those who were present in the House.
