Money From Drugs Smuggling Used By Pakistan To Sponsor Terrorism In J&K: DGP Dilbag Singh
DGP Dilbag Singh said that money generated from the trade of smuggled drugs and weapons is being used to fund terror activities in Jammu and Kashmir.
New Delhi: Jammu and Kashmir's Director General of Police (DGP) Dilbag Singh Sunday said that most money generated from the narcotics business in India is sent back to Pakistan, which uses them to sponsor terrorism and illegal activities in the union territory. The DGP’s comments came following the recovery of a massive stock of drugs, cash, and weapons from regions close to the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch.
“We are faced with a new challenge where the drugs and weapons are smuggled from Pakistan together. While the weapons are delivered to the terrorists, the major part of the drug proceeds are returned to handlers (across the border) and the rest is shared by the peddlers,” he said, as quoted by news agency PTI.
“The proceeds (from the drugs trade) are being utilised to keep terrorism alive (in Jammu and Kashmir),” Singh further said.
He also spoke on the seizure of seven Kilogrammes of heroin worth over Rs 2.30 crore in cash along with weapons. The police had seized the items from the home of a drug peddler on March 3 in Mandi Sector.

This was one of the several such rackets busted by the police in the past few weeks in the region.
He claimed that all these activities revealed interstate links to drug trafficking in the area.
“The probes unearthed interstate connections of drug trafficking, especially connected to Punjab, and raids were conducted,” the DGP asserted, as quoted by PTI.
Singh noted that the department is investigating multiple such cases of Narcotics in close collaboration with the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB).
Commenting on this particular matter, he said, “In this (Poonch) case, the entire module involved in the drug trafficking will be unveiled and stern action taken against those found involved".
He expressed serious concerns about the involvement of Pakistan in the cross-border smuggling of arms and ammunition in order to fund terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir.
The DGP stated that most money from the business and trade activities of such cross bored smuggling of narcotics is used by Pakistan to foment terror in J&K.

PTI quoted him as saying, “The money generated from the drugs trade is returned to handlers in Pakistan who use the cash to fund terror activities. Some cash is handed over to infiltrating terrorists. Money is also sent to this side by drones.”
The police chief revealed anyone involved in executing any blast in the region is given advance money and cash through the use of drones across the border.
“This is the same money that is generated by the drugs trade and used by Pakistani agencies and terrorist groups operating from there,” remarked Singh, as per PTI.
He also responded to the criticisms of the police by political leaders saying they should refrain from making such statements.
“Politicians will play politics but the police and the forces have to do their own work. It is not good on the part of anyone, whether a politician or otherwise, to do something that will vitiate the peaceful atmosphere. People should desist from such things,” he said.
