New Delhi: Medanta Hospital Director Rakesh Kapoor informed on Tuesday that as many as 33 medical staff, including doctors, at Medanta hospital in Lucknow have tested positive for Covid-19, reported ANI.


Of the 33 new patients, 32 are hospital staff and one is a doctor, working at the emergency ward. All the patients are said to be asymptomatic.

Recently, the hospital had collected 800 Covid-19 RT-PCR samples, of which 33 hospital employees contracted the disease.


Medanta Hospital Director Dr Rakesh Kapoor was quoted ANI, "Most of the doctors who have been infected are those who go for sample collection and this could be the reason that they have contracted the disease".


Dr Kapoor said, "The hospital is also collecting samples from other staff members and doctors."


Meanwhile, in Delhi Covid positivity rates jumped over 5% for a day, Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) has decided to impose a weekend curfew in the national capital. The decision was taken on Tuesday during a DDMA meeting held because of rapidly increasing COVID-19 cases in Delhi.


Government employees, barring those engaged in essential services, will be asked to work from home, announced Delhi Deputy CM Manish Sisodia. Private offices will continue to remain open with only 50 per cent seating capacity, he said.


A bigger change that the Delhi commuters will witness is that after a restrictive 50% capacity in public transport vehicles such as buses and metro trains has been removed.
