Eid-ul-Fitr 2023: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday extended his wishes to the nation on the occasion of Eid. In a tweet, the Prime Minister said, "Greetings on Eid-ul-Fitr. May the spirit of harmony and compassion be furthered in our society. I also pray for everyone’s wonderful health and well-being. Eid Mubarak!"
The President of India, Droupadi Murmu greeted fellow citizens on the eve of Eid-ul-Fitr on Friday.
As per an official release from the President's Secretariat, the President said in her message, "On the auspicious occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr, I extend my heartiest greetings and best wishes to all citizens living in India and abroad, especially our Muslim brothers and sisters."
"Eid marks the end of the holy month of Ramadan. This festival spreads the feelings of love, compassion and affection. Eid gives us the message of solidarity and mutual harmony. This festival is imbued with the spirit of harmony and inspires us to build a peaceful and prosperous society," she added.
President Murmu further said, "On this occasion, let take a pledge to promote feelings of brotherhood and harmony in the society".
Eid marks the conclusion of the holy month of Ramadan. People offered namaz, and hugged each other on the auspicious occasion in Bhopal, Mumbai, Delhi and other places i nthe country.
Eid-ul-Fitr is also known as Meethi Eid or Eid al-Fitr, and it is celebrated on the first day of the Islamic month of Shawaal. On this day, people assemble to break their fasts and share a lavish meal. They also pray, make donations, and dress in new attire.
