A massive fire broke out in Jamia Masjid in the Drass area of Ladakh on Wednesday, as reported by the news agency ANI. The fire was brought under control with the help of the army, police, fire and emergency department, although the mosque was heavily damaged by the fire.
A video of the fire showed the Jamia Masjid being engulfed by flames. Locals said that since the fire brigade did not arrive, the locals started putting out the fire with the army.

"The fire was brought under control with the help police, Army and the local population. The Kargil District administration sent two fire tenders to aid the efforts. Initially, it was Army who mobilized their men and machinery and brought the fire under control. The top two floors of Jamia Masjid were completely damaged in the incident," CEC Kargil Feroz Ahmad Khan said.
The local administration has rushed units of fire tenders to douse the fire at the earliest. Residents from neighbouring regions arrived on the spot to join the efforts to douse the fire.
