The Assam government is carrying out a massive eviction drive at Bhumuraguri Grazing reserve, Jamai Basti, Rampur, Kadamoni areas to free around 1000 Bigha land from encroachers. A JCB is tearing down illegal structures on the land.
According to ANI, around 800 security personnel have been deployed at Batadraba for the smooth implementation of the anti-encroachment drive.
Explaining the initiative of the administration, Leena Doley, Superintendent of Police of Nagaon district said, “Civil administration had earlier issued notice because these are the government's plots of land. From Dec 13, security personnel are camping here and conducting flag march. Many encroachers have already left the area.”
“As per our report, there were 302 structures on the government land and as of now, there are 72 structures in the area. We have received full cooperation from the locals. Now the eviction drive is going on peacefully. We hope to be able to free the 1000 bigha of land,” the SP added, quoted ANI.
The eviction drive began early in the Santijan bazaar area with the deployment of over 600 security personnel and so far, it has been peaceful, Doley told reporters adding that the eviction drive is being carried out in four villages to clear encroached government land
"After Santijan Bazaar we will clear land in the Haidubi area and depending on the time taken there, we will take a decision on carrying out the drive in the remaining two villages", Doley said, reported PTI.
