New Delhi:  Malayalam superstar Mohanlal, unlike his peers from the Tamil film industry, has no plans to join politics. In an interview to a national daily, the actor clarified that he doesn’t intend to contest elections or join politics.

“Politics is not my cup of tea. I want to remain an actor always. I enjoy the freedom I have in this profession. In politics, a lot of people depend on you and it’s not easy. Also, it’s not a subject that I know a lot about. I have no inclination whatsoever,” Mohanlal was quoted by The Times of India.

The national award winner’s clarification comes following a statement by BJP Kerala state unit general secretary MT Ramesh, who said that the party was ready to let him contest from any seat of his choice.

BJP MLA O Rajagopal, had reportedly said that they are pursuing the actor to contest from the Thiruvananthapuram constituency.

The legendary south star was among the list of prominent personalities who were named for the conferment of Padma awards. The actor in his 40-year career has worked across Malayalam, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu and Kannada films.
