Maharashtra Govt Considering Resumption of Mumbai Suburban Train Services As Covid Cases Recede

Lauding the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), Thackeray said the civic body has succeeded in curbing the spread of Covid-19 in Mumbai.

Mumbai: Asserting his government is considering resuming suburban train services in Mumbai for all commuters, Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Thursday said a decision in this regard will be taken with responsibility.

Lauding the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), Thackeray said the civic body has succeeded in curbing the spread of Covid-19 in Mumbai.

He said the BMC did not falter in its responsibility of providing services to citizens during the Covid-19 pandemic.

“Relaxation of coronavirus restrictions would be given wherever it is possible. The Mumbai model was praised during the pandemic and a slum like Dharavi has defeated the virus,” PTI quoted Thackeray as saying at the inauguration of a new municipal building in Mumbai.

Thackeray urged all to continue to follow the Covid-19 appropriate behaviour.

The Chief Minister’s remarks came as Mumbai has been reporting less than 500 coronavirus cases daily for the last three weeks.

Union Minister of State for Railways Raosaheb Dave on Thursday said the local train services will be made available for common people in Mumbai once again if the state government submits a proposal in this regard.

The suburban train services in the metropolis were suspended for general public in April this year due to the second wave of the coronavirus pandemic.

Currently, only the government employees and those working in essential services are allowed to travel in local trains.
