"I would like to humbly request the leader of the opposition not to try to mislead Parliament. Regarding the Agniveer scheme, direct communication was established with many people, 158 organisations, their suggestions were taken, then this Agniveer scheme was brought. This scheme has been brought after a lot of thought." "And, I would also like to make it clear that these kinds of schemes are operational in many countries. It is there in the US, in the UK. People there do not have any objection. Without understanding the Agniveer scheme, without getting proper information about it... to mislead the House like this, can not be deemed appropriate".
Singh later posted a video clip on 'X', showing his response to Gandhi's claims in the House on the scheme.
"...This scheme has been brought after a lot of thought," he wrote.
The Agnipath scheme, announced on June 14, 2022, provides for the recruitment of youths between the age bracket of 17-and-half years and 21 for only four years, with a provision to retain 25 per cent of them for 15 more years. The government extended the upper age limit to 23 years later that year. (PTI Inputs)

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Biral on Monday, July 1, interrupted Leader of Opposition (LoP) Rahul Gandhi for displaying Lord Shiva's photo during discussions. Birla said, "You yourself worship Lord Shiva, displaying his picture during a discussion doesn't feel right".
Raising the NEET-UG 2024 paper leak row in the lower house of the Parliament, LoP Rahul Gandhi said: "NEET is not a professional exam; NEET is a commercial exam. A student can be a topper, an excellent student, but can't get into a medical college if they don't have money. The entire exam is for wealthy students. Commercial exams that you have created; in 7 years, 70 papers have leaked. We said it's an institutional failure, and we want to help, but the government says this cannot be discussed."
While speaking in Lok Sabha, LoP Rahul Gandhi said, "Modi government called farmers terrorists". Union Home Minister Amit Shah objected to the remarks, then the Rae Bareli MP responded, "When we asked for a silence in the parliament, they did not agree, about 700 farmers were martyred, but they did not allow a minute of silence, because you don't consider them farmers, you label them 'terrorists'".
Speaking on the Agniveer scheme for entry into the Armed Forces, LoP Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi said, "One Agniveer lost his life in a landmine blast but he is not called a 'martyr'... 'Agniveer' is a use & throw labourer..."
While debating in Lok Sabha today, Rahul Gandhi, discussing demonitisation, said: "We will defeat you in Gujarat this time. Take this in writing, I.N.D.I.A bloc will defeat you in Gujarat".

MP Engineer Rashid oath matter | NIA has given its consent to permit independent MP Rashid Engineer to take oath on July 5 in Parliament.
NIA said the consent is subject to certain conditions, including not interacting with media. The Patiala House Court to pass an order tomorrow, 2nd July. Rashid Engineer has sought interim bail or custody parole to take oath as an MP.

As Opposition MPs protest and allege misuse of central agencies, Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi says, "Agencies are being misused. When the Trial Court had granted bail to Arvind Kejriwal, it had said that there was no base (for arrest). Now, when Hemant Soren has been granted bail, (Jharkhand) High Court has said that there is no base. These show that this is not a free and fair investigation but a political witch-hunt."

Parliament is set to witness a stormy session on a several topics. The two houses will see heated debates on a range of issues like the NEET paper leak row, the Agnipath initiative and inflation when both houses reconvene on Monday. The opposition bloc I.N.D.I.A is also likely to raise the issue of unemployment.
In the Lok Sabha, BJP member and former Union Minister Anurag Thakur is set to initiate the debate on the Motion of Thanks on the President's Address. The Motion will be seconded by first term Lok Sabha member Bansuri Swaraj, the daughter of BJP stalwart late Sushma Swaraj.
The Lok Sabha has allocated 16 hours for the debate on the Motion of Thanks, which will conclude with the reply by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday.
In the Rajya Sabha, 21 hours have been set aside for the debate and the prime minister is likely to reply on Wednesday.
Parliament has been rocked by protests over the NEET issue.
NEET-UG was conducted by the NTA on May 5 with around 24 lakh candidates appearing. The results were announced on June 4, but they were followed by allegations of question paper leaks in states such as Bihar, besides other irregularities.
Opposition INDIA bloc members forced adjournment in the Lok Sabha on Friday, when the House was to take up the debate on the Motion of Thanks on the President's Address, demanding a dedicated discussion on the NEET issue.
The Rajya Sabha had witnesses vociferous protests during the debate with the opposition demanding a discussion on the NEET row and Leader of the Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge trooping into the Well of the House to join fellow members.
Congress member Phulo Devi Netam from Chhattisgarh fainted in the Rajya Sabha while raising slogans, apparently due to high blood pressure, and was rushed to the Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital.
Opposition members slammed the government for not adjourning the proceedings of the House and showing lack of concern for the health of a Rajya Sabha member.
