New Delhi: Nationalist Congress Party veteran Sharad Pawar and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi discussed the seat-sharing formula for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in Maharashtra on Thursday, the state chairman of NCP, Jayant Patil said, as reported by news agency PTI.

Congress's Maharashtra in-charge Ramesh Chennithala had stated earlier that the seat-sharing discussion between the constituents of the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) was in the last stage and a final decision was to be announced after the alliance meeting on February 27 and 28.

"Pawar and Rahul Gandhi have spoken on the phone," Patil said, PTI reported.

The MVA alliance comprises Congress, NCP-Sharadchandra Pawar, Shiv Sena (UBT), and Prakash Ambedkar's Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi.

In addition to organisational issues, Patil stated that he met with Pawar on Thursday to talk about the current seat-sharing negotiations.

Earlier on Monday, the SP offered 17 Lok Sabha seats in UP to the Congress Party.

SP And Congress Agree On Seat Sharing

The SP and the Congress are partners in the I.N.D.I.A. bloc, formed by Opposition parties to take on the BJP in the upcoming general elections. Akhilesh Yadav's party had earlier offered 11 seats to the Congress. In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the Samajwadi Party managed to win 5 seats, and the Congress won 52 seats. But, the BJP retained power with a majority.

Furthermore, he noted a growing public demand for Sunetra Pawar, the wife of Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, to be nominated from the Baramati constituency. Currently held by Supriya Sule, the daughter of NCP founder Sharad Pawar, the seat has garnered considerable attention amid these developments.
