J&K: Heavy Rain Triggers Landslide On Vaishno Devi Route, Yatra Resumes Via Alternate Path

IMD reported that the Katra, where the Vaishno Devi shrine is located, recorded 13 cm of rainfall. It has also forecast more rain across Jammu till August 16.

A landslide triggered due to heavy rain hit the Shree Mata Vaishno Devi Yatra route near southern Deori in Jammu on Wednesday. It caused a temporary disruption for pilgrims en route to the revered shrine. However, the incident did not result in any injuries or casualties.

Following this, the Yatra resumed via an alternate route, according to Shrine Board officials who are closely monitoring the landslide site.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) confirmed that Jammu and Kashmir experienced heavy to very heavy rainfall in isolated areas over the past 24 hours. Katra, located at the base of Trikuta Hill where the Vaishno Devi shrine is located, recorded 13 cm of rainfall. The IMD has forecast more rain across the Jammu division until August 16.

Cloudburst In J&K's Bandipora

Earlier today, a cloudburst in Jammu and Kashmir's Bandipora district caused a flash flood, submerging several areas. Fortunately, there were no casualties reported.

The Srinagar Meteorological Centre had earlier issued an advisory forecasting light to moderate rainfall across Jammu and Kashmir. The advisory indicated "light to moderate rain/thundershowers at most places in J&K on August 15," with similar weather conditions expected to continue into the morning of August 16-20.

The IMD also predicted fairly widespread to widespread light to moderate rainfall is expected over Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand, with scattered to fairly widespread rainfall across Jammu and Kashmir, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan over the next four to five days.

On August 14 and 15, isolated heavy rainfall is expected over Punjab, Haryana-Chandigarh, and East Rajasthan, and from August 14 to 16. The Jammu division is expected to receive similar weather.

Himachal Pradesh is likely to experience heavy rainfall from August 14 to 18, while Uttarakhand could experience showers from August 14 to 20. Isolated very heavy rainfall is also predicted over East Rajasthan on August 14.
