Lal Bahadur Shastri Jayanti 2022: Modi, Prez Murmu & More Recall Former PM's 'Simplicity' & 'Tough Leadership'
Lal Bahadur Shastri is the second prime minister of India, his birth anniversary is celebrated on Oct 2. Several political leaders have shared special messages recalling Shastri's simplicity and leadership.
New Delhi: Lal Bahadur Shastri is the second prime minister of independent India and shares his birthday with Mahatma Gandhi (October 2).
He was born in Mughalsarai in 1904, as a young student, he was inspired by Gandhi to quit government school and join the freedom struggle. The next day he withdrew from his school to join the non-cooperation movement and actively participated in picketing and anti-government demonstrations.
His slogan 'Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan' which is popularly known even today became an inspiration while he was leading the country through the Indo-Pakistan War of 1965.
On his 118th birth anniversary, several leaders have shared messages on Twitter:
President Draupadi Murmu in her tweet said, "Shastri ji's simplicity and high ideals are a source of inspiration for all the countrymen even today."

Union Home Minister Amit Shah in a tweet in Hindi said, that Shastri "wrote a golden chapter in the history of independent India with his simplicity, strong leadership and selfless service to the nation."

Shastri's accomplishments as an inspirational prime minister are that he promoted both the White Revolution -- the production of milk by supporting the Amul milk co-operative -- and the Green Revolution to boost India's food production.
