New Delhi: The Samyukt Kisan Morcha, an umbrella body of the farmers protesting against the farm laws, on Saturday called for ‘rail roko’ on October 18 to protest the violence in Uttar Pradesh’s Lakhimpur Kheri on October 2.

The Samyukt Kisan Morcha said the farm unions will block train movement on October 18 and hold a mahapanchayat in Lucknow on October 28.

The farmers from various states would arrive at Lakhimpur Kheri on October 12 to mourn the death of five farmers and a journalist killed in the incident.

Accusing Minister of State for Home Affairs Ajay Kumar Mishra of protecting the culprits in this case, Samyukta Kisan Morcha leader Yogendra Yadav demanded that the former should be removed from the Union Cabinet.

Yadav also said the Samyukta Kisan Morcha will burn the effigies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah on the occasion of Dussehra on October 15 to protest against the violence.

The Samyukta Kisan Morcha leader lashed out at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led government at the Centre and in Uttar Pradesh over the Lakhimpur Kheri incident.

“This incident has completely exposed the character of the Union government, the Uttar Pradesh government, and the Bharatiya Janata Party which is in power at both places,” Yadav said.

“The BJP is not ready to take any step against its leaders and goons even after there is clear evidence of such a big murder and involvement of BJP leaders in it. It is clear that the BJP has now turned to violence after losing ground in the face of this historic farm movement,” he added.

Earlier in the day, the Union Minister’s son Ashish Mishra appeared before the Uttar Pradesh Police in connection with the Lakhimpur Kheri violence.

His interrogation is going on at the Crime Branch office in Lakhimpur Kheri police lines.

Ashish Mishra was named in a FIR following allegations that he was in one of the vehicles that mowed down the farmers in Lakhimpur Kheri.

Eight people were killed in the violence that broke out on October 3 after an SUV allegedly ran over a group of anti-farm law protesters, who were demonstrating against Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya’s visit at Tikonia-Banbirpur road in Lakhimpur Kheri.
