Lakhimpur Violence: Ashish Mishra, the main accused in the Lakhimpur Kheri violence case, has reached the Crime Branch office. The Crime Branch team is interrogating Ashish. Earlier there were reports of Ashish Mishra absconding. However, Ashish's lawyer told this morning that Ashish Mishra will appear before the police on time. Ashish's lawyer had also told that Ashish and Monu are in Lakhimpur. Ashish Mishra is the son of Union Minister of State for Home Ajay Mishra.
Earlier, describing his son as "innocent", Ajay Mishra on Friday said that his son is "unwell" and will appear before the police today. Mishra told the media at Lucknow airport, "We have faith in the law. My son is innocent, he got the notice on Thursday but he said that he is not feeling well. He will appear before the police on Saturday and confirm his innocence. Will give statement and evidence about Asked if the opposition was demanding his resignation. The opposition demands anything."
Farmer leaders alleged that Union Minister of State for Home Ajay Misra's son was in one of the SUVs which allegedly ran over the protesters. In clarification, the Union Minister had released a self-made video in which he claims that his son was not present during the incident. He further adds that some miscreants from the agitating farmers pelted stones on the car, which led to the incident.
Previously, Ashish was asked to appear before the police at 10 am on Friday in connection with the Lakhimpur Kheri violence. However, he failed to appear before the police which prompted the Supreme Court to make some serious observations in the case. “We’re not on merits. The allegation is of 302. Treat him the same way we treat other persons in other cases. Not that we have sent notice, please come,” CJI Ramana said while hearing this case, as reported by Live Law.
