Kollam: Johnkutty, a farmer in Kollam's Edamulakkal, has applied to India's Limca Book of Records and the Guinness World Records for having the world's heaviest and longest jackfruit.


The jackfruit is reported to be 97 centimeters long and weighs 51.5 kilograms.



Talking about how he reached the decision of applying for the famous records, Johnkutty said, "My friends told me that this jackfruit looks big and I should try for a record. When I searched, I found that the heaviest jackfruit weighs 42.72 kg and was found in Pune. So, I have applied for Guinness World Records and also the Limca Book of Records."

Meanwhile, according to the Guinness World Records website, the current world record holder jackfruit was discovered on a farm affiliated with the 'Jackfruit Company' in Pune for a jackfruit that weighed 42.72 kg and was 57.15-centimeters long.  The record was verified on 23 June 2016.

The Kerala farmer and his family are very hopeful of setting the new world record.
