Surat: Days after Aam Party Party (AAP) managed to make a significant inroads in Gujarat civic polls, party convenor and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal arrived in Surat to thank the people if the city, where his party has put up an impressive show by winning as many as 27 seats. Speaking to reporters at the airport, Kejriwal said that he has come to the city to thank the people for bestowing trust in his party. 


During his visit, Kejriwal met the newly-elected corporators of AAP and party workers and advised them not to let the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) continue indulging in corruption and also asked them to the power of opposition.




"Aap Aisa Accha Kaam Karna aur ruling BJP Ko Unki Naani Yaad Dila Dena. Apko Ek Bhi Galat Kaam Nahi Hone Dena Hai'. (You should not let the BJP indulge in any wrongdoing. Show the people of Gujarat that through the AAP, the politics of good work has arrived)," Kejriwal said while speaking to AAP corporators and workers.


Kejriwal arrived at Surat's Mini Bazar in Mangadh Chowk where he garlanded the statue of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, post which he proceeded with his roadshow. 




Kejriwal-led AAP has made inroads into Gujarat's politics by winning 27 seats of SMC, one of the six cities where voting was held on Sunday. 


While BJP has managed to retain the power by winning as many as 93 seats in the 120-member SMC, the AAP has become the opposition replacing Congress, which had won 36 seats in 2015, could not bag even a single seat this time.
