'Kashmir Files Should Be Banned': Farooq Abdullah Blames Film For Valley's Law & Order Situation

New Delhi: Farooq Abdullah, the former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, demanded that the Vivek Agnihotri-directed film 'The Kashmir Files' be banned, claiming that it has instilled "hatred in the country," news agency ANI reported. 

He also branded the film "baseless," claiming that the incidents depicted in it were all made up.

The comments came a day after leaders of the People's Alliance for Gupkar Declaration, including Abdullah and PDP head Mehbooba Mufti, met with Jammu and Kashmir's LG Manoj Sinha to discuss recent violent occurrences in the Valley.

Speaking to the reporters, Abdullah said, "We met LG Manoj Sinha. The purpose of it was that the law and order situation is bad here. While tourists are visiting the Valley, people are being killed on a daily basis," ANI reported. 

"If we have to come closer to each other, this hatred has to end. 'The Kashmir Files' shows a Muslim killing a Hindu and rinsing the rice in his blood and telling his wife to eat it? This is a baseless film that has not only created hatred in the country but also among the youth of the valley that how they are being looked at," he added. 

Announcing the cooperation of the UT's leaders, Abdullah stated that they will "stand with everything that helps maintain peace and law and order."

Referring to the LG Sinha, the National Conference (NC) leader stated, "We don't want to disrupt the law and order. He assured us that the government is doing everything possible."

While announcing an investigation into the tear gas shelling on Kashmiri Pandits during the protest, J-K LG Manoj Sinha on Sunday assured that security will be beefed up in the residential complexes where government Kashmiri Pandits employess resides. 

On Thursday, the killing of Rahul Bhat, a Kashmiri Pandit and government employee, sparked street protests in which teargas was deployed to disperse the crowd. The J-K administration formed a SIT to investigate the murder after the protest.
