Mobile, Internet Services Restored In Kashmir, Curbs Eased

After the death of separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Gilani, restrictions on the gathering of people were enforced in Kashmir, and the internet was suspended. The restrictions curbs were eased today.

New Delhi: Restrictions in Jammu and Kashmir have been lifted and mobile and landline internet services were restored in the valley.

Kashmir Zone Inspector General Of Police, Vijay Kumar informed that the situation in the valley remained peaceful and is under control. He also thanked the people for co-operation, reported ANI.

After the death of separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Gilani, restrictions on the gathering of people continued in most parts of the Kashmir Valley, while internet services were yet again suspended till Saturday 10 am. 

Gilani (91) passed away at his residence here on Wednesday night due to his prolonged illness.

Mobile internet service were shut down after Gilani's death

The separatist leader, who led a campaign in Jammu and Kashmir for more than three decades was handed over to a mosque near his residence for his final rites. As a precautionary measure, after his death, restrictions were imposed in the majority of places in the valley. Officials said that restrictions were imposed on people gathering in most parts of the valley but the people can move more freely in some parts.

Restrictions were enforced in the older areas of Srinagar and Haiderpura. As Gilani was a resident of Haiderpura, roads leading to his residence in Haiderpura were closed and barriers were installed to prevent the swarming of people.

Officials said a large number of security forces were deployed to maintain the law and order. Internet services and mobile telephone services were restored completely on Friday night after being shut down for two days. However mobile internet services were shut down again on the morning of Saturday which was restored later on.

It is to be noted that after the death of the separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Gilani, state mourning was declared in Pakistan as well.
