J&K: Militants Hurl Petrol Bomb At School In Shopian, No Injuries Reported

Police said some damage has been caused to the school office in the incident and resulting fire was immediately put out.

Srinagar: In yet another act of cowardice, suspected militants on Friday evening hurled petrol bomb at a school building in South Kashmir's Shopian district. Police said militants hurled petrol bomb at a school building in Kundalan village in Shopian district on Friday. The school is designated as an examination centre for the ongoing 10th board exam. Police said some damage has been caused to the school office in the incident and resulting fire was immediately put out. No casualties were reported. Earlier this week, six migrant labourers from West Bengal were shot dead by militants in South Kashmir’s Kulgam district. The attack came as a delegation of Members of European Parliament arrived in Srinagar to see the ground situation, amid sporadic incidents of violence and a shutdown. Those killed in Tuesday's attack were identified as Sheikh Kamrudin, Sheikh M. Rafiq, Sheikh Murnsulin, Sheikh Nizam ud Din, Zahoor ud din and Mohd Rafiq Sheikh. Cutting across party lines, political parties condemned the killing of the unarmed non-Kashmiri Muslim labourers from Bengal and termed it as an act of cowardice by militants. Prior to this, militants had targeted innocent truckers and damaged power transmission towers. (With inputs from Agencies)
