Robbers Flee With Belongings Worth Rs 76,000 After Beating, Threatening Passengers On Jharkhand Train

A group of around 12 robbers looted belongings worth Rs 76, 000 after airfiring and thrashing at least seven passengers onboard the Sambalpur-Jammu Tawi Express in Jharkhand’s Latehar district.

A gang of 10-12 robbers looted belongings worth Rs 76,000 after thrashing at least seven passengers onboard the Sambalpur-Jammu Tawi Express in Jharkhand’s Latehar district, a railway official said on Saturday. The incident took place around Saturday midnight between Latehar and Barwadih stations under the Dhanbad division of East Central Railway (ECR). The gang threatened the passengers by firing in the air near Chhipadohar station, said one of the victims on the train, reported news agency PTI. The passengers sustained injuries in the incident.

He was quoted as saying by PTI: "Many passengers were beaten up by the robbers.” After the incident, passengers staged a protest when the train reached Daltonganj station, where it halted for around two hours.

Daltonganj sub-divisional magistrate Rajesh Kumar Shah, who also reached the station, said the injured passengers were admitted to Medinirai Medical College and Hospital after the incident.  He added that two of them are a little serious.

Senior divisional commercial manager of Dhanbad division Amresh Kumar said: "The incident happened on the S9 coach. Seven passengers received minor injuries, while belongings of 13 passengers worth Rs 75,800 were looted."

The authorities have already registered an FIR against the robbers. Kumar also said that robbers looted around eight mobile phones. Meanwhile, the technical team is tracing the locations of the devices after four of the looted phones were found active in the morning.

After committing the crime, the robbers escaped into the forest by pulling the train's chain at Barwaadih railway station. Passengers onboard the train said all the robbers were hiding their faces behind the masks in order to hide their identity.

They further said the robbers must be in the age group of 25 to 30 years and a few of them were also around 40-years-old. Most of them were also drunk and were carrying country-made pistols and thick sticks to scare the passengers on the train.
