New Delhi: Amid the ongoing political upheaval in Jharkhand, Chief Minister Hemant Soren met Governor Ramesh Bais on Thursday and urged him to clear the confusion over the recommendation of the Election Commission and also demanded a copy of the EC opinion on the office of profit case against him.
According to reports, the election panel had sent its decision on the matter to Governor Bais on August 25. Though the EC’s decision has not been made public yet, as per reports, the EC has recommended the chief minister’s disqualification as an MLA.
After meeting the Governor, CM Soren took to Twitter and wrote, “Provide a copy of the decision of the Election Commission and provide an opportunity for reasonable hearing at the earliest so that the atmosphere of uncertainty, which is dangerous for healthy democracy, can be removed soon.”
He further claimed that the opposition Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) was using this “atmosphere of uncertainty” to destabilise a democratically elected government by trying to poach the MLAs.
It is to be noted that following a petition by the BJP seeking CM Soren’s disqualification from the Assembly in an office of profit case, the Election Commission (EC) has sent its decision to the state Governor on August 25, sparking a political crisis in the eastern state.
Notably, CM Soren had allegedly procured stone mining leases in his name while being the chief minister and holding the mines portfolio, over which the BJP sought his disqualification as an MLA.
