New Delhi: Senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Thursday trained his guns against ruling Bharatiya Janata Party over kidnapping and murder of two Dalit girls in Uttar Pradesh’s Lakhimpur Kheri district. Two teenage girls from Dalit community were found hanging from a tree in a sugarcane field about a kilometre away from there house under Nifhasan police station in Lakhimpur Kheri on Wednesday, the police said. 


All the six accused have been arrested in connection with rape and murder of the rwo girls. 


"The kidnapping and murder of two minor Dalit sisters in Lakhimpur in broad daylight is a very disturbing incident," Gandhi said in a tweet in Hindi.


"Women's safety cannot be expected from those facilitating the release of rapists and welcoming them," the Wayanad MP said in an apparent reference to 11 convicts in the Bilkis Bano gangrape case being set free last month from the Godhra sub-jail after the BJP-led Gujarat government allowed their release under its remission policy.






He condemned the incident saying, “the kidnapping and murder of two minor Dalit sisters in Lakhimpur in broad daylight is a very disturbing incident” and stressed on the need for creating a safe environment in the country for women.


Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav compared the incident with that of Hathras and tweeted: "Murder of two Dalit sisters after kidnapping them in Nighasan police station area. Their father's allegation on the police is very serious that they carried out 'panchnama' and post-mortem without the family's consent. After farmers in Lakhimpur, the killing of Dalits is now a repetition of the murder of 'Hathras' daughter'."
